This year, I've really been enjoying using my Discover Weekly and Daily Mixes to discover new music. From new releases to fresh discoveries, here are my current favourites 25/01/2025.

Listen While You Read

When I saw Georgia was featured on this track I knew I had to listen to it. Addictive basslines and catchy lyrics performed incredibly by Master Peace makes it difficult not to start dancing when this song starts playing. I love Georgia's input into this song with a collaborative chorus with only a synth backing them up. There is also a version of this song with Princess Superstar. This is a perfect addition to any party playlist, 'I Might Be Fake' should be on your rotation and I need to hear it played in a club RIGHT NOW!

I picture myself driving in a convertible down a long road on a sunny day listening to Boom Boom Back, total sleazy summer vibes. I hadn't heard of Hinds before this but I will be listening to more of their music from now on, and I enjoyed seeing Beck as part of this collaboration. The guitar riff running throughout the song feels somewhat nostalgic and definitely reminds me of fond summer memories. With interesting lyrics about partying and falling in love whilst partying, I feel like singing this along with friends is something I need. I especially enjoy the middle spoken section and have been saying 'you guys are so cuuuuuuuuute' everywhere I go.

Hearing this on Radio 6 Music in the morning woke me up like nothing has before. Adult DVD injected pure unfiltered energy into Do Something, using electronic riffs to carry the upbeat message carried in the lyrics. I feel like the intro for this song is hyping me up for the song itself. It tells a relatable tale of being so bored and you seem to have tried everything just to do something. I really enjoy the drumbeat switch-up in the chorus, making it feel heavier, the layered vocals also assist this. If you're ever bored or tired, slap this on and get ENERGISED! I'll be keeping my eyes on Adult DVD.

I discovered Computer Love whilst sitting in a cafe on a snowy morning, sipping my coffee and reading a book, which is exactly how you should be listening to this absolutely beautiful song. Sarah Meth's heavenly voice accompanied by an ever-so-slight robotic vocal effect hovers across a mesmerising synth melody that makes you feel like you're floating. The layered vocals alongside the building synth towards the end sends chills down my spine. Although the lyrics are simple and repetitive, the short song never fails to make me feel wistful. 'I need some real life love' makes me tear up a little every time.

I've been dying to talk about this song. No matter how many times I listen to Uptight I can not get enough of it, it's so addictive! The message of 'I'm skint, everything is too expensive and I want to go home' rings so true to me at the grand age of 24. The vibe is funky and the first time I heard the synth sting play I knew I was in for a treat. The dueted chorus is so tasty and I love the spoken part depicting someone on their way home on the bus but they don't really care. This entire album actually follows a similar theme and I would recommend listening to the whole thing. Home Counties have appeared several times in my playlists across the years, always with a different sound which I respect entirely, I can't wait to keep up with these guys.

If there is one album I'm excited for this year it's 'Dead Chanel Sky' by clipping. Reminiscent of 80s hip-hop, the synth baseline and sharp drums shape clippings' social commentary laced music. The switch from rap to soft vocals with encouraging lyrics is special in Keep Pushing. I love the smooth, deep vocals, provided by Daveed Diggs, they accompany the synth so well and I highly anticipate the full album. I fell in love with Visions Of Bodies Being Burned last year after a late discovery, I find clipping.'s sound to be totally addictive, once you listen to one you just want more.

There's something laced in this song that tickles my brain in just the right way. I'm not usually one for songs with spoken storytelling but Get Down has changed my opinion on that completely. It describes a typical night out, well, at least one where I'm from getting ready, being at the pub and trying to get home when you're broke and drunk. The chunky bass and jumpy guitar gives this song a unique edge, the upward scale during spoken parts almost provides a sense of dread and panic, that sort of drunk anxiety we all get. I would certainly get down to this Get Down whenever given the chance.

After discovering duo MRCY at Greenman Festival, I've been entirely enchanted by their soulful, chilled music. I remember it being a beautiful sunny day and hearing the most mesmerising voice supported by a talented band. Kojo Degraft-Johnson performs in a higher range than you would expect from a soul artist but it's perfectly blended with producer Barney Lister's work. Their song Lorelei has been a favourite of mine for a while so I was thrilled to see R.L.M on my discover weekly. This song makes life feel easy and light, and brings a warm feeling to your heart.

I was so late to the CMAT game but I'm here now and very happy to be. After watching her performance on Jools Holland's new year show I needed to explore her discography. I started with the one she performed on the show 'Have Fun!' and absolutely fell in love with it, it's so uplifting and well, FUN! The light piano riff throughout brings a playfulness to somewhat of a serious topic, putting yourself first and not caring about people who have mistreated you in the past. This is a proper sing-in-the-shower type of song is a majority of CMAT's work. I love the incorporated strings that come in half way through, it stands out against other pop songs with little touches like this.

Oooo this song makes my ears feel good. Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have an incredibly recognisable sound in their guitar, heard especially in the later half of this song, I immediately knew it was them. The lyrics portrayed through the powerful voice of Jack McEwan sends shivers, it sounds strained and painful, accompanying the heavy music track. I love it when the tempo picks up after the strummed intro and lets you know exactly what type of song you’re listening to. The fuzz on the guitar suits it perfectly and the riff during the verses is infectious. I think I’ll be shouting ‘no’ like they do in this tune to anything I don’t want to do from now on.
