I was so excited to see Bob Vylan again after catching them at Greenman Festival in 2023.

After discovering Bob Vylan last year, they've become a bit of a soundtrack to my life and seeing them live is something everyone should do at some point in theirs. Their new album "Humble As The Sun" is a new spin on their social commentary style, lined with messages about never giving up and believing in yourself whilst also commenting on the struggle many people face with the cost of living, especially in the UK, amongst other things. Their live performance was electric, full of energy and insanely engaging. From crowd surfing to incredible drum solos and LOADS of moshing this was the perfect punk rock gig. They played a great mix of songs from all of their albums and kept us sweating throughout, crowd surfing and getting involved whenever they could. Prior to the gig the band was actually manning the merch stand, taking pictures with people and chatting, it was so lovely to meet one of the Bobby's.

I attended this gig not knowing who the supporting artists were and I got the best surprise ever. CLT DRP (pronounced clit drip) brought a heavy metal/ punk vibe the second they entered the stage. I was thrashing in the merch queue, they have a really interesting sound and an incredible lead singer. I'm keeping my eye on these guys for sure.

When Hyphen came on stage to a rock rendition of "Everybody" by the Backstreet Boys, I really didn't know what to expect. Dressed in short shorts, he charmed the entire crowd with his witty personality, crowd engagement and incredible messages. With a similar vibe to Bob Vylan he was the perfect selection for this tour. With songs concerning the mistreatment of people, especially concerning race that he and his peers have personally experienced, this performance hit hard and has created a lasting memory for me. I've since been listening to his music and have been loving it.

Venue:

Manchester Academy is one of the most popular music venues in Manchester and for all the right reasons. There is plenty of space to jump around and to move back if you need to. The bars are well placed and the merch stand sits comfortably at the back of the room. My only thing about Manchester Academy 1 is that the toilets can get incredibly crowded at times due to them being gender-neutral and also placed between the bar and the exit.
